NEOGEN DERMALOGY VITA LIGHTENING SERUM REVIEW
By Bambi (kherblog)
Do you have a favourite brand? I don't have one but I'm obsessed with Neogen - the formulas and all the products are pretty interesting. I saw very different opinions about this serum - from pretty bad to pretty good that's why I've decided to try this Neogen Dermalogy Vita Lightening Serum and show you my opinion about it.
Couple words about brand
Neogen is a brand related to a company called Outin Futures. This line was established in 2009. This company has a Leaping Bunny certificate. The name of the brand sounds really different in commercials what we are used to calling it, check it on your own.
Packaging
The packaging is unusual and very effective. When I've posted first photos of this product on my Instagram account lots of people were asking me what it is. Same with my friends and family - everyone who saw it online or in real life were surprised. I must admit that packaging doesn't only looks like a piece of art - it also works very well.
Skin Type
This product is recommended for dull skin.
Ingredients
Water,Glycerin,Butylene Glycol, Alcohol Denat,Niacinamide, Algae Extract,Sodium Hyaluronate, Cellulose Gum, Betaine, Glycine Max (Soybean) Seed Extract, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Fruit Extract, Saururus Chinensis Leaf/Root Extract, Arnica Montana Flower Extract, Artemisia Absinthium Extract, Broussonetia Kazinoki Bark Extract,3-O-Ethyl Ascorbic Acid, Benzophenone-5, Carbomer, Safflower Yellow, Gardenia Red, Disodium EDTA, PPG-26-Buteth-26, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Triethanolamine, Phenoxyethanol, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Fragrance.
Glycerin- good moisturiser, it might be comedogenic.Butylene Glycol- moisturiser, it controls the product's stickiness.Alcohol Denat- this substance has good and bad sites, it can boost the other ingredients but it might make your skin dry and due to that your skin might get more oily than before.Niacinamide- vitamin B3, helps with pigmentation.Algae Extract- alga is a source of vitamins, minerals and proteins. It's an antioxidant so it works well for wrinkles and skin moisture.Sodium Hyaluronate- another moisturiser, it can firm the wrinkles and increase skin elasticity.Cellulose Gum- a stabiliser.Betaine- powerful but gentle moisturiser.Glycine Max (Soybean) Seed Extract- adjust the moisture to the skin.Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Fruit Extract- soothing ingredient, helps with sun damage.Saururus Chinensis Leaf/Root Extract- also known asChinese Lizard's Tail, it's an antioxidant and skin brightener that cures inflammation.Arnica Montana Flower Extract- cures redness and improves blood circulation.Artemisia Absinthium Extract- kills the bacteria, but be careful - this ingredient is dangerous for pregnancy.Broussonetia Kazinoki Bark Extract- also known as(Japanese) paper mulberry, because this tree was used for paper production. In the beauty industry, this ingredient is used for skin brightening.3-O-Ethyl Ascorbic Acid- works on pigmentations. Benzophenone-5- UV absorber.Carbomer- a thickener, it might be comedogenic.Safflower YellowandGardenia Red- natural colourants.Disodium EDTA- a preservative, it's safe in small concentration.PPG-26-Buteth-26- it gives a smell to the product. The five last ingredients are the worst in this combination because they are proven to be unhealthy:PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil,Triethanolamine,Phenoxyethanol,Methylparaben,PropylparabenandFragrance.
Smell & Texture
It's a gel with a strange scent which reminds me of lemons, oranges and grapefruits, I'm enjoying this smell because it's a very delicate scent.
How does it work for me?
This product is very delicate - I had no allergic reactions to it but I was doing my best to use it in the morning and then I've skipped it at nighttime routine due to my acid treatment - I prefer not to mix vitamin C (in this case 3-O-Ethyl Ascorbic Acid) with AHA. Even if it looks like a very strong product and even if I had to wear a sunscreen - by the way I use sunscreen every day so that wasn't anything new for me - this product can be used by people with sensitive skin too. My skin was moist, I couldn't see the loss of a moisture and that's a benefit. My skin was brighter and it looked fresh. I can see that while using this product with acid treatment the results are better than without this serum. It's a very light formula - you can easily apply a sunscreen and foundation or bb cream after this serum - it gives moisture to the skin but it doesn't make your skin oily so if you have acne-prone or oily skin then go for it.
Additional Information
This brand has a Leaping Bunny certificate but I'm not sure if this product has a certificate because I can't see it on the packaging (RE:P belongs to Outin Futures too, but RE;P's products contain an information about this certificate). What's funny - there's a very similar serum from Neogen Code9, what's the difference between Neogen Dermalogy and Neogen Code9? Don't ask me, I had a theory that both are made for different regions but looks like my theory was wrong - that's probably why I'm still buying a product from this brand because I want to know why there are two lines with very similar products made by one producer.
Sum up
It's a very gentle product in an interesting form with a little mystery - just try to find out what's the difference between Dermalogy and Code9. So if you're a fan of Sherlock then it's something for you and if you want a brighter skin or you have problems with pigmentation it's also a product for you.
